Jury selection is underway in the murder trial of a Minnesota man accused of killing his girlfriend. Adam Fravel, 30, faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Madeline Kingsbury, whose body was discovered concealed in a rural area of the state in 2023. Fravel was apprehended in June 2023, shortly after authorities located Kingsbury’s remains near a property owned by his parents.
Madeline Kingsbury, 26, vanished in March 2023 after dropping off her two young children at daycare in Winona, a town in southeastern Minnesota. Her disappearance prompted a widespread search effort, with the community rallying together to find her. Police received numerous tips and utilized digital evidence such as phone and computer records to locate Kingsbury’s body.
Fravel has consistently denied any involvement in Kingsbury’s death. The prosecution anticipates that jury selection will span several days, with opening statements potentially commencing on October 14 if the selection process progresses as planned. To avoid any potential bias, the trial has been relocated from Winona to Mankato, approximately 136 miles away.
According to a criminal complaint, Fravel informed authorities that he and Kingsbury had decided to separate, and she was seeing someone else. Investigators suspect that Fravel, who was financially dependent on Kingsbury, killed her after she expressed intentions to leave their shared residence. Witness statements suggest a history of violence in the relationship, though Fravel’s legal team maintains that the evidence against him is circumstantial.
The autopsy report revealed that Kingsbury died from “homicidal violence,” but specific details were not disclosed. The trial is expected to shed light on the events leading to Kingsbury’s tragic demise and bring closure to her family and the community.
