Michael Cohen has made alarming claims about former President Donald Trump’s intentions if he wins the 2024 election, suggesting that Trump would use Seal Team 6 to “round up his critics or his opponents.” Cohen, a former fixer and lawyer for Trump turned critic, made these comments during an appearance on former Biden White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s MSNBC Sunday program.
During the interview, Cohen criticised Republicans for trying to prove their loyalty to Trump by denying his loss in the 2020 election. Psaki raised concerns about Trump potentially replicating his actions from 2020 if he were to lose the election. Cohen expressed his belief that certain Republicans are seeking favours from Trump if he wins, while others are hoping for unity in the country.
Cohen warned that Trump’s divisive rhetoric should not be brushed off lightly, stressing that when Trump speaks about using military forces to target his critics, he fully intends to do so. Drawing from his own experience, Cohen highlighted his imprisonment after pleading guilty to charges in 2018, which he claimed was orchestrated by Trump and former Attorney General Bill Barr.
According to Cohen, his arrest was a test run for Trump, demonstrating how he could target his critics using the legal system. Cohen suggested that Trump might be inclined to imprison more individuals based solely on his personal whims and opinions, marking a dangerous threat to democracy.
These revelations from Cohen shed light on the potential consequences of another Trump presidency, raising concerns about the erosion of democratic norms and the abuse of power. As the 2024 election approaches, such warnings serve as a reminder of the importance of upholding democratic values and safeguarding against authoritarian tendencies.
