Labour peer Lord Levy has expressed his admiration for his family’s remarkable courage a year after his cousin was captured by Hamas militants. Lord Levy’s cousin, Emily, was among those taken hostage during the 7th October attacks in Gaza last year. As the anniversary of her abduction passed, Lord Levy shared that his family continues to pray for Emily’s safe return, along with approximately 97 other hostages who remain missing. He commended Emily’s mother, Mandy, for her unwavering hope and strength during these challenging times.
In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Lord Levy acknowledged the ordeal faced by not just his family but also other families awaiting the return of their loved ones. He highlighted the emotional turmoil and fervent prayers for their safe release. Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary David Lammy marked the 7th October attack anniversary as a moment for solemn contemplation and remembrance. Lammy visited a synagogue in South Tottenham, offering support to the Jewish community amidst commemorations held across the UK. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer echoed the sentiment, labelling the attack as the most significant assault on the Jewish community since the Holocaust.
