A man has been jailed by a sheriff for a knife attack in Wishaw, Hamilton Sheriff Court reported. The perpetrator, Kevin McKay, admitted to stabbing the victim following a simmering feud between them that had lasted for months. The incident took place on Harestone Road in Wishaw on March 8 last year.
McKay, aged 43 and residing at Mid Barrwood Road in Kilsyth, pleaded guilty to assault to severe injury and was sentenced to 14 months in prison. Sheriff John Hamilton, presiding over the case, expressed that McKay was fortunate not to be facing a murder charge for his actions. Hamilton emphasised the seriousness of carrying a knife and the grave repercussions it can lead to, including potential murder charges in severe cases.
The court heard details of the attack, where McKay confronted the victim after parking alongside him and proceeded to stab him, stating, “You won’t ever pull a knife on me again.” McKay’s lawyer highlighted his client’s struggles with substance abuse and his remorse over the incident.
