Winter warm boost for Dumfries and Galloway charity

A charity in Dumfries and Galloway has received a heartwarming donation to help keep young people warm this winter. The Quarriers’ Dumfries and Galloway Youth Housing Support Service has been gifted a generous supply of bedding, including pillows, duvets, duvet covers, fitted sheets, blankets, and pillowcases, from John Lewis Partnership’s Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow.

Julia Cringean, the project manager of the Youth Housing Support Service, expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, “Having all these fabulous pillows to distribute to the young people we support is such a treat.” She highlighted the importance of creating a sense of home and comfort for the young individuals transitioning into their own tenancies.

The charity supports individuals aged 16-25 who are care leavers, homeless, or at risk of homelessness by addressing various needs such as cooking skills, laundry, budgeting, and grocery shopping. The donation of top-quality bedding from John Lewis will enhance the level of luxury and comfort for these young people, helping them feel cocooned and safe in their new living spaces.

Caitlin McGinley, community liaison co-ordinator at John Lewis in Glasgow, shared, “We are thrilled to support Quarriers through our Community Matters scheme.” She emphasized the commitment of the John Lewis Partnership to give back to the communities they serve and acknowledged the impactful work done by Quarriers in supporting individuals during challenging circumstances.

In addition to the Dumfries and Galloway Youth Housing Support Service, other bedding items were also donated to Quarriers Rivendell Residential Support Service, which provides round-the-clock residential support for children and young people with complex needs. The collaborative effort between the charity and the retailer showcases a meaningful partnership aimed at improving the lives of those in need.

The initiative not only provides essential items for individuals in vulnerable situations but also fosters a sense of care and compassion within the community. Such acts of kindness contribute to creating a supportive environment where individuals can feel valued and supported as they navigate challenging circumstances.

The generous donation of bedding from John Lewis Partnership serves as a reminder of the positive impact that collaborative efforts can have on improving the well-being of vulnerable individuals. As winter approaches, the act of generosity will undoubtedly bring warmth and comfort to those in need within Dumfries and Galloway.
