Rangers legend Ally McCoist has revealed that he turned down offers to appear on ITV’s “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here” twice due to his aversion to creepy crawlies. McCoist, who holds the record as Rangers’ all-time top scorer with 355 goals in 581 matches and eight league titles, was offered the opportunity to participate in the show in 2019 and 2022 but decided it wasn’t for him. The 62-year-old football star shared that his wife and kids stopped speaking to him after he declined the chance to be on one of their favourite shows.
In a statement back in 2022, McCoist expressed his hesitation towards the show, mentioning his dislike for cockroaches but also hinted at enjoying certain aspects such as the adrenaline rush of jumping out of a helicopter. Although his family, including his wife Vivian, are huge fans of the show, they were disappointed when he turned down the offer, leading to some tense moments at home. Despite the pressure from his family and the allure of the show, McCoist couldn’t get past his fear of certain insects.
However, recent news suggests that McCoist may be reconsidering his stance on the show. Sources indicate that he is currently in “advanced talks” with the show’s producers for this year’s line-up, sparking excitement among fans who have been eagerly awaiting the star-studded cast announcement. The upcoming season of “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here” is set to commence next month, with speculations swirling about potential celebrity contestants.
Among the rumoured participants are gymnast Max Whitlock, former pop star Tulisa Contostavlos, boxer Tommy Fury, dancer Oti Mabuse, Corrie’s Alan Halsall, and influencer GK Barry. Sports personalities turned pundits have historically been well-received on the show, with past winners including footballer Jill Scott and motorcycle racer Carl Fogarty. Fans are eagerly anticipating McCoist’s potential appearance, following in the footsteps of his former Question of Sport rival Phil Tuffnell, who was crowned King of the Jungle in 2002.
