Bellshill man jailed after he was caught with more than 3000 child abuse photos

A man from Bellshill has been sentenced to a year in jail after being found in possession of over 3000 child abuse images and videos. Euan Mair, 25, of Helenslea Place, was also discovered to have been sharing the explicit material with online acquaintances. When he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court, Mair admitted to downloading and possessing indecent images of children between January 3, 2022, and April 23, 2023. He was placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of 10 years. Additionally, Mair confessed to distributing or sharing the illicit material.

During a search at his residence, police officers confiscated a mobile phone and an iPad, both confirmed to be owned by Mair. Disturbing images and videos depicting child sexual abuse were uncovered on both devices. Furthermore, online conversations were found where Mair discussed his sexual interest in children. The court was informed that Mair had shared indecent images of children with other users on a social media platform on at least 10 occasions.

Sheriff Colin Dunipace, addressing Mair who had no prior convictions, described the crimes as extremely serious. He emphasised the gravity of Mair’s guilt in light of the charges brought against him. The severity of the offences was underscored during the court proceedings.
