Crime boss Jamie ‘Iceman’ Stevenson is set to challenge the 20-year prison sentence he received for leading an international drug cartel. Stevenson, 59, from Rutherglen, was recently convicted after authorities seized £76 million worth of high-purity cocaine hidden in banana boxes in Dover back in 2020. Additionally, a Valium pill factory capable of producing 250,000 tablets per hour was discovered in Kent. Stevenson admitted directing others to commit serious offenses and being involved in organized crime during his trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
The Court of Appeal in Edinburgh has confirmed that Stevenson is appealing the sentence imposed by Judge Lord Ericht. His legal team has lodged an appeal, although no court date has been scheduled yet. Five other members of the drug ring were also sentenced last week for their involvement in the operation. Stevenson’s stepson Gerard Carbin, aged 45, received a seven-year sentence, while David Bilsland, 68, Lloyd Cross, 32, Paul Bowes, 53, each got six years, and Ryan McPhee, 34, was imprisoned for four years.
Stevenson’s appeal comes in the wake of his conviction for orchestrating a significant drug smuggling operation, involving millions of pounds worth of illegal substances.
