**Firefighters Issue Warning After Air Fryer Causes Devastating Blaze**
Firefighters have shared harrowing images of a kitchen blaze that tore through a family home, stemming from the misuse of an air fryer. The incident, which unfolded in the village of Hodnet near Market Drayton in Shropshire, left the kitchen completely gutted. While air fryers have gained popularity for their ability to cook crispy foods with less oil compared to traditional deep fat fryers, they still pose a fire hazard if not used correctly.
Chip pans and deep fryers are known for their fire risks due to the large amounts of hot oil they employ, but air fryers can also lead to potentially deadly fires, as seen in this recent case. Fortunately, working smoke alarms alerted the residents of the danger, allowing them to swiftly contain the fire before extensive damage occurred. A photo shared by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service reveals the extent of the destruction, with the microwave melted from the intense heat.
In a bid to raise awareness about the dangers of unattended air fryers, the fire service urged the public never to leave cooking appliances unsupervised, maintain cleanliness and orderliness in kitchen spaces, and carefully follow manufacturers’ instructions and safety guidelines. Additionally, they highlighted a crucial advice to avoid using greaseproof paper in air fryers, as it can ignite when it comes into contact with heating elements.
Earlier this year, a similar incident unfolded when a mum’s air fryer nearly caught fire due to improperly used air fryer liners. By ensuring even food distribution and avoiding items like paper, cardboard, non-heat resistant plastic, and popcorn that can interfere with the fryer’s operation, users can mitigate the risk of fires. These cautionary measures are essential for ensuring the safe and proper use of air fryers, allowing users to enjoy their benefits without endangering their homes and families.
