Pete Wicks has shared the heartbreaking reason behind his decision to leave Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins for the second time. The 36-year-old reality star, known for his appearance on The Only Way Is Essex, had to exit the show in 2022 after sustaining a rib injury while jumping from a helicopter. In a recent episode of the Channel 4 series, Pete left viewers emotional as he expressed his struggle, stating, “I’ve lost the fight, I’ve got nothing left, my head is not in it.”
Opening up about his departure, Pete disclosed that he felt overwhelmed during a moment when he was asked to read a letter to his mother, who had nearly died by suicide. Reflecting on the experience, he explained to The Sun, “I decided that night that I was in too deep. I hadn’t prepared for the reading out of the letters.” Pete further elaborated, “For them, it’s life and death. But it’s a TV show, and I’d reached my limit on a TV show. I’ve got absolutely no regrets about it.”
Following his stint on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, Pete made his debut on Strictly Come Dancing, where he had the support of his mum, Tracy, who had a history of mental health struggles. In his memoir titled “Never Enough,” Pete shared the traumatic experience of finding his mother after a suicide attempt and the impact it had on him.
Reflecting on the event, Pete expressed feelings of guilt and responsibility, narrating, “I had been with Mum before it happened. I had agreed to go upstairs. I had stayed upstairs even though I could hear her wailing.” Fortunately, Tracy recovered swiftly and apologized to Pete for the incident, acknowledging it as a “moment of madness” that wouldn’t recur.
