Police data released by Police Scotland has revealed the presence of a significant number of registered sex offenders (RSOs) living across the Stirling area. According to statistics published by the police, as of September 1 this year, 128 registered sex offenders were residing locally. The figures indicate a concentration of RSOs in specific postcode areas, with the FK10 and FK7 postcodes showing the highest numbers.
The FK10 postcode, which includes areas such as Sauchie, Tullibody, Alloa, Cambus, Kincardine, Clackmannan, and Kennet, had 47 RSOs living in that vicinity. In the FK7 postcode, covering Stirling (south and east), Bannockburn, Cambusbarron, Cowie, Fallin, Plean, South Alloa, and St Ninians, there were 31 registered sex offenders. Meanwhile, the FK8 postcode, which includes Stirling (centre and west), Aberfoyle, Arnprior, Buchlyvie, Gargunnock, Gartmore, Inversnaid, Kippen, Port of Menteith, Ruskie, and Thornhill, was home to 11 offenders.
Other postcode areas in Stirling also had RSOs living there, such as FK6 (Denny and Dunipace) with eight, FK13 (Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton, and Devonside) with seven, FK9 (Stirling north, Bridge of Allan, Blair Drummond, Blairlogie, Cambuskenneth, Lecropt) with six, FK12 (Alva), FK15 (Dunblane, Braco, Greenloaning, Kinbuck), and FK17 (Callander, Brig o’ Turk, Kilmahog) each having five RSOs. FK11 (Menstrie) had three offenders, while no specific figures were provided for FK21 due to a smaller population residing there.
RSOs are closely managed by Police Scotland through the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), involving comprehensive risk assessment and management strategies within the community. Dedicated officers trained for this purpose work to ensure that appropriate steps are taken to protect the public from potential risks posed by registered sex offenders. Despite the presence of RSOs in the community, police reassured that sexual re-offending rates among this group remain minimal, and efforts continue to be made to safeguard communities.
