A tragic incident unfolded in South Korea when a hunter mistakenly shot and killed another man, whom he had mistaken for a wild boar, police confirmed. The incident occurred in Yeoncheon county in Gyeonggi province at around 11:35 pm on October 6.
The unfortunate event took place as three hunters from Yeoncheon’s animal control team were out in the night searching for a wild boar that had been spotted earlier in the area. The unidentified hunter, in his 40s, accidentally shot the other man in the dark, mistaking him for the animal in what is known in hunting terms as a “mistaken for game” accident.
The victim, also in his 40s, sustained critical injuries after being shot in the head and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Tragically, despite efforts by medical professionals, he was pronounced dead. It was noted that the victim, who was not armed at the time, was responsible for setting up a thermal imaging camera trap to monitor the movements of the wild boar.
The shooter has since been charged by the police with involuntary manslaughter due to professional negligence, as investigations into the incident continue. This incident sheds light on the inherent dangers and risks involved in hunting activities, particularly when proper precautions and identification measures are not strictly adhered to.
