Former elementary school teacher, Madison Bergmann, is facing trial after allegedly exchanging thousands of sexually explicit text messages with her 11-year-old student. Bergmann, 24, was arrested in May for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with the boy just three months before her own wedding.
The principal of River Crest Elementary School reported potential misconduct between a teacher and a fifth-grader to the Hudson Police Department. Screenshots of texts between Bergmann and the student revealed inappropriate conversations, including references to physical contact and kissing.
Bergmann is now charged with 10 felonies, including sexual assault of a child under 13, child enticement, sexual misconduct by school staff, and use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime. During a preliminary hearing, shocking details emerged, with over 33,000 text messages exchanged between Bergmann and the student.
The court heard that Bergmann and the boy communicated daily, with discussions escalating to kissing and explicit content. Testimonies revealed intimate conversations and physical interactions outside of school hours. Reports indicated the discovery of emails and handwritten notes shared between the two.
Despite arguments from Bergmann’s attorneys that the charges were excessive and lacked conclusive evidence, the judge ruled in favor of the prosecution. The case will proceed, and Bergmann is scheduled to return to court on November 7. The trial continues to unfold as further developments are expected.
