Body of missing woman found after mysterious disappearance while horseback riding in Montana

Authorities have made a grim discovery in the case of a missing woman who vanished while horseback riding in Montana. The body of Meghan Rouns, 27, has been found days after she went missing. Rouns had set off with her horse along the McMaster Hills trail near Downtown Helena on Friday afternoon when she disappeared.

Search teams came across the woman’s hat, phone, and horse, which appeared to have been in the Missouri River. However, her remains were not immediately found. Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo C Dutton shared that he believed a strong gust of wind knocked Rouns off her horse as she rode along the riverbank, leading to her falling into the water. Divers recovered her body from the river on Tuesday.

Rouns’s body was found in 11 feet of water, approximately 100 feet from shore. Authorities will now take her body to a crime lab in Missoula to determine the cause and manner of her death. Sheriff Dutton mentioned that foul play is not suspected at this point, and there are no indications of any medical conditions or suicide as the cause of death.

Despite the extensive search efforts involving helicopters, drones, and cadaver dogs, along with the deployment of search and rescue teams combing through the water and surrounding area, the outcome has been devastating. Rouns, an experienced equestrian, was meant to return from her ride by 6 p.m. on Friday, but her father reported her missing when she didn’t show up.

The sheriff’s office extended their deepest condolences to Rouns’s family, acknowledging the sorrowful conclusion to the search effort. The sudden and tragic nature of Rouns’s disappearance has left the community in shock, with many expressing their sympathies for the family during this difficult time.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Meghan Rouns’s death continues, as officials work to piece together the events leading to her untimely passing. The local community has been deeply affected by the loss of Rouns, a young woman who set out for a peaceful ride with her horse and never returned. As more details emerge, the focus remains on providing closure and support to Rouns’s loved ones as they navigate this heartbreaking ordeal.
