French President Macron Voices Concern Over Emily in Paris Relocating to Rome
French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his surprise at the news that the popular Netflix series, Emily in Paris, is set to move its setting to Rome for the upcoming fifth season. Macron has vowed to advocate for the series to remain in its current location, Paris, stating that he will “fight hard” to keep it there.
In the season four finale of Emily in Paris, the main character, Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, is depicted moving to Rome to establish an Italian office for her marketing agency and to continue her romantic involvement with Marcello Muratori, portrayed by Eugenio Franceschini. While the series creator, Darren Star, hinted that Emily may have a presence in Rome, he assured fans that Paris will still play a significant role in the show.
Reacting to the location change, Macron expressed his disbelief at the decision, stating that “Emily in Paris in Rome doesn’t make sense” in a recent interview with Variety. Macron jokingly mentioned that he is not as appealing as his wife, Brigitte Macron, who made a cameo appearance in the show’s recent episode titled “Lost In Translation.”
Brigitte’s cameo appearance was a highlight in the series, and Collins shared that the idea had been in the works since she and Star met Brigitte at the Elysée Palace in 2022. Brigitte’s appearance brought humour and joy to the set, as she interacted with Emily and her mentee Genevieve in a memorable scene.
Although Emily in Paris is gearing up for its fifth season with production set to begin in mid-2025, the release date remains unknown. The series has captured the hearts of viewers with its blend of romance, humour, and Parisian charm, and fans eagerly anticipate what the future holds for Emily in both Paris and Rome.
