Trump advisor calls Biden and FEMA Hurricane Milton safety update ‘literal propaganda’

A Trump campaign advisor has accused Fox News of spreading “literal propaganda” by airing a Hurricane Milton safety update from President Biden and federal officials. Chris LaCivita, a GOP strategist and Trump campaign advisor, criticised Fox News for showing the update on the storm from top officials such as Vice President Kamala Harris and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

LaCivita took to Twitter to express his disapproval, posting a photo of the channel airing the update and calling it propaganda. However, the update was not political propaganda but rather crucial safety information ahead of Hurricane Milton, which is expected to cause significant damage in Florida upon landfall.

During the update, Secretary Mayorkas highlighted the importance of combating misinformation surrounding disaster safety, noting that false information could hinder relief efforts and endanger lives. This call for accurate information comes amidst a backdrop of misinformation spreading, especially from former President Trump and his allies.

Trump had previously made false claims about federal disaster funds and misinformation regarding Hurricane Helene. He alleged that funds were stolen and given to “illegal immigrants” instead of helping hurricane survivors. These claims were debunked by FEMA, clarifying that aid is available for survivors in need.

On the other hand, right-wing figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene have perpetuated conspiracy theories, suggesting that someone can control the weather. These misleading statements further add to the challenge of ensuring accurate information during natural disasters.

The Independent has reached out to both the Trump campaign and Fox News for comments on the accusations made by LaCivita. As the situation unfolds, it’s crucial for the public to be vigilant against misinformation and rely on credible sources for updates on Hurricane Milton and other natural disasters.
