Florida man uses plastic wrap to protect his prized Corvette ahead of Milton — turns out he didn’t need to

A man in Florida used plastic wrap to protect his precious Corvette in anticipation of Hurricane Milton, only to find out that his efforts were unnecessary. John Santos, a resident of Palm Beach, had purchased the luxury vehicle in January this year and gained significant attention after meticulously wrapping it in plastic as the storm approached the Sunshine State.

Despite the viral video showing Santos covering every inch of his bright orange Corvette with industrial-quality plastic and film, Hurricane Milton ended up sparing his home and prized possession. The storm passed by leaving minimal impact on his property and the car.

Initially, some social media users questioned Santos’ decision to protect the Corvette instead of evacuating the area. In response to the queries, Santos clarified that his home was not in the direct path of the storm and evacuating could potentially lead to more risks.

Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane near Sarasota County’s Siesta Key before weakening to a Category 1 as it moved across Florida’s east coast. Despite some communities facing severe weather conditions, Santos’ area escaped major damage from the storm.

Santos revealed that his decision to wrap the Corvette was influenced by a similar incident where a Porsche in Tampa survived a hurricane after being wrapped in plastic. He reassured that the vehicle was safe from flooding and expressed plans to unwrap it and take it for a drive after the storm had passed.

While Santos celebrated the intact status of his Corvette post-Milton, many others in Florida were not as fortunate, with millions evacuated and significant damage reported in several regions. The hurricane brought about unfortunate consequences including multiple tornadoes, high waves, powerful winds, heavy rainfall, and destructive storm surges.

As the cleanup and recovery efforts continue in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, Santos stands out as one of the lucky ones whose proactive measures proved to be unnecessary but ultimately ensured the safety of his prized possession.
