Plans are underway for the development of a 22MW solar farm near Coupar Angus by Greentech Invest UK. The company is preparing to submit a planning application for the proposed Peattie Solar Farm, which will be located southwest of Kettins and east of Burrelton in Perth and Kinross Council. A Proposal of Application Notice was submitted in August 2024 and was discussed at a recent meeting of the Planning and Placemaking Committee.
The solar farm would consist of rows of solar PV panels mounted on steel frames running east to west, positioned about 0.7m off the ground with a maximum height of 3.25m. The panels would be set at an angle of approximately 20 degrees facing south, with a distance of 3.5 to 4 metres between each row to minimise shading effects. The energy generated at the farm would be integrated into the local electricity distribution network.
According to a planning statement by Greentech, the solar farm is intended to be a temporary development, operational for 40 years before decommissioning. All equipment and structures will be removed, and the land will be returned to the owner. This initiative follows a trend of similar developments in the Coupar Angus area, prompting councillor Ian James to request consideration for local residents during the planning process.
A consultation event for the Peattie Solar Farm project is scheduled to take place at Kettins Community Hub on Thursday, October 17, following a previous session in September. The aim is to engage with the community and address any concerns related to visual aspects, sightlines, and potential disruptions that may arise from the solar farm development.
