Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson has recently launched her new children’s picture book, titled “Flora and Fern: Wonder in the Woods,” which carries a vital message in support of the environment and sustainability. The book, illustrated by Denise Hughes, is a festive narrative that showcases Ferguson’s commitment to promoting the significance of nature, particularly to a young audience aged three and above.
Having previously published over 26 books, Ferguson described her latest creation as a story that revolves around imagination and children finding joy in nature. She stated that the book emphasizes community, sustainability, and reflects how she raised her daughters. The storyline follows characters Flora and Fern as they embark on a snowy woodland adventure, preparing for a festive celebration. Alongside these characters, readers will encounter a host of adorable animal characters who engage in mischief, wonder, and joy throughout the narrative.
Ferguson expressed her aim to convey an essential message about the power of community and the importance of being connected to the world around, a value she believes is fundamental to a sustainable future. She underlined her commitment to children’s literacy and storytelling through the book’s release, thanking illustrator Denise Hughes for bringing the woodland world to life with beautiful illustrations.
In addition to the book’s positive message on community and sustainability, Ferguson hinted at a possible cameo on the television show “Coronation Street” leading up to the book’s release. During a visit to the ITV Studios in Media City, she toured the Prevent Breast Cancer charity headquarters in Wythenshawe, Manchester, accompanied by Sally Dynevor, who portrays Sally Metcalfe on the show.
Ferguson, who has been open about her own battle with breast cancer, confirmed that there had been no spread or recurrence of the disease. The Duchess’s book, “Flora and Fern: Wonder in the Woods,” not only entertains children with its charming tale but also serves as a platform to instil values of environmental consciousness and community spirit in young minds.
