St Aidan’s High School in Wishaw bid a fond and emotional farewell to their long-serving head teacher, Mrs Claire Connelly, as she retired early after nine years in the post. The school community came together to celebrate Mrs Connelly’s dedicated career in education with a special farewell event. The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bagpipes as she received a guard of honour from students and staff during her final send-off.
Bishop Toal of the Diocese of Motherwell led a mass gathering, where senior pupils, friends, family, and colleagues joined in celebrating Mrs Connelly’s contributions to the school. The Music Department staff and students provided musical accompaniment, adding to the heartfelt farewell. A coffee morning was also organised in her honour, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and providing an opportunity for Mrs Connelly to address the staff before her departure.
As Mrs Connelly walked out of the school for the last time, she was accompanied by bagpiper Logan Blair, a pupil at the school. Reflecting on her 32 years in the teaching profession, Mrs Connelly shared her gratitude for the St Aidan’s community, noting the dedication of the staff members. Her strong presence in the school was evident as her office was adorned with cards, gifts, and balloons, showcasing the impact she had on the school community.
While Mrs Connelly is uncertain about her future plans in education, she expressed her love for teaching and the rewarding experiences she has had throughout her career. The school community expressed their heartfelt goodbyes to Mrs Connelly, who will be greatly missed by all. Following her departure, Mr Dominic Kennedy has taken on the role of Acting Head Teacher, with the formal recruitment process underway to select a new permanent Head Teacher to lead St Aidan’s High School into the future.
