The shocking incident took place on American Airlines Flight 4412 from LaGuardia to Detroit. The passenger, who remained anonymous, shared their ordeal in a Reddit post. They described noticing a small brown bug climbing up their leg while they were engrossed in reading a book. After alerting a flight attendant, the bug was captured on a cocktail napkin and shown to the crew.
The passenger, who expressed being “sufficiently freaked out” by the encounter, reported changing clothes upon landing and washing the potentially infested items. Despite lodging a complaint with American Airlines, they later discovered that the same aircraft had continued its scheduled flight without delay, raising concerns about proper cleaning procedures.
During the flight, the bedbug supposedly attempted to bite the passenger’s finger when placed on a napkin for inspection, adding to the distressing experience. Following the incident, the passenger detailed the airline’s response, which included a message expressing apologies and offering 7,500 bonus miles as a gesture of goodwill.
