Nico Rosberg has drawn a comparison between Aston Martin’s Formula 1 team and the star-studded era of Paris Saint-Germain, highlighting the challenges faced by the Silverstone-based outfit. The recent acquisition of F1 design expert Adrian Newey from Red Bull has sparked optimism for Aston Martin. Newey, with an impressive track record of 25 F1 titles in his 35-year career, is set to join the team in March next year, aligning with the new regulations in 2026.
However, Rosberg, the 2016 F1 world champion, has cautioned that relying solely on Newey will not guarantee success for drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Drawing parallels with PSG’s football team, which boasted talents like Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe without clinching the Champions League, Rosberg emphasised the importance of teamwork. He stated that while bringing in top talents and experts is crucial, cohesive collaboration within the entire team is equally vital for achieving victory.
Rosberg expressed, “Adrian Newey on his own is not going to be able to make that car a world-championship-winning car. He needs the rest of the team.” Acknowledging Newey’s valuable contributions in providing direction and guidance, Rosberg highlighted the necessity for the team to work harmoniously towards a common goal. The challenge lies in integrating Newey’s expertise with the collective efforts of the entire Aston Martin team to propel them towards success.
With Newey’s appointment forming a pivotal part of owner Lawrence Stroll’s vision to elevate Aston Martin to F1 world champions, the team currently stands fifth in the constructors’ standings. Despite being 52 points ahead of RB in sixth place, Aston Martin trails Mercedes by a substantial 243-point margin in fourth place. The F1 action is set to resume after a three-week hiatus with the United States Grand Prix scheduled in Austin from 18th to 20th October.
