A search has been launched for a missing person after a boat carrying six individuals capsized in the River Thames. The incident took place near the island of Wheatleys Eyot in Sunbury-on-Thames on Friday morning. While five people have been found safely, one person remains unaccounted for, according to Surrey Police.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid the area around Sunbury Lock as emergency services, including the police, paramedics, and Surrey Fire and Rescue service, continue their efforts to locate the missing individual. The rescue operation began after Surrey Police’s Elmbridge Beat received the initial call at 8:50 am. They have assured the public that further updates will be provided as soon as possible.
Three individuals have been transferred to St Peter’s Hospital, as confirmed by the South East Coast Ambulance service. Paramedics responded to a distress call reporting multiple people in the water at Sunbury Lock.
