A road rage incident in Los Angeles resulted in a shooting that left one person dead and another injured, causing the closure of Interstate 5 for several hours. The incident occurred during rush hour traffic and was reported just after 4 p.m. on Thursday.
According to authorities, the shooting took place on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 freeway in northeast Los Angeles. The California Highway Patrol revealed that two men suspected to be involved in the shooting managed to flee the scene following a preliminary investigation.
The altercation began with a gold Cadillac sedan and a dark-colored SUV engaging in a high-speed chase. The Cadillac eventually rear-ended another uninvolved vehicle, prompting two men from the SUV to open fire on the Cadillac, injuring both the driver and passenger. The dark-colored SUV was identified as possibly being a Dodge Durango.
After the shooting, the Cadillac attempted to escape by making a U-turn and driving into oncoming traffic on the northbound lanes, causing multiple collisions with other vehicles. Tragically, the passenger in the Cadillac succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the driver was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The northbound lanes of the Interstate 5 freeway remained closed until around 1 a.m. on Friday, causing significant traffic congestion for miles. Reports from local TV stations depicted hundreds of stranded drivers standing outside their vehicles as they waited for the road to reopen.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased passenger, pending notification of their next of kin. The investigation into the road rage shooting is ongoing as law enforcement works to apprehend the suspects involved in the incident.
