St Andrew’s Hospice volunteer of nearly 40 years wins Special Achievement honour at North Lanarkshire Provost Awards

A long-standing volunteer of St Andrew’s Hospice, Julie McPherson, has been recognised for her dedicated service of nearly 40 years. At the recent North Lanarkshire Provost Awards, Julie received the Special Achievement honour for her unwavering commitment to the hospice. Since the establishment of the Airdrie hospice in 1986, Julie has taken on various responsibilities, including welcoming patients and families, providing support for bereavement services, tending to flowers on inpatient wards, creating items for fundraising, and assisting in setting up the hospice’s charity bookshop in Airdrie town centre.

Speaking on Julie’s exceptional contributions, a hospice spokesperson expressed how her compassion and commitment had significantly impacted the hospice community, making her a deserving recipient of the award. The recognition was presented to Julie by Provost Kenneth Duffy at the hospice, following the awards ceremony held at Dalziel Park in Motherwell. The awards aimed to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of individuals and groups who have made a remarkable difference in their local communities.

In a statement, Provost Duffy praised the exceptional dedication shown by various nominees, highlighting the selflessness and commitment that have been truly inspiring. The Provost expressed gratitude for the invaluable contributions made by these individuals towards the betterment of their towns and villages. With over 150 nominations received, 37 deserving winners were chosen across nine community board areas, demonstrating the profound impact of community involvement and support in North Lanarkshire.
