A woman from Wisconsin, who was accused of stabbing her classmate in 2014 as a sacrifice to the sinister character Slender Man, has filed a third request for release from a psychiatric hospital. Morgan Geyser, now 22 years old, submitted a petition to Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren seeking her freedom from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. This marks the third attempt in the past two years that she has made to seek release.
Geyser, along with Anissa Weier, committed the horrific act when they were just 12 years old. The two girls lured Payton Leutner to a park in Waukesha after a sleepover, where Geyser cruelly stabbed Leutner 19 times while Weier encouraged her. Miraculously, Leutner survived the attack. The motive behind their actions was their belief that by sacrificing their classmate to Slender Man, they would become his servants and protect their families from harm.
Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide and was subsequently placed in the psychiatric institute due to her mental health condition. Weier, on the other hand, pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide and was also confined to a psychiatric facility. In 2021, Weier was permitted to leave the institution and live with her father under the condition of wearing a GPS monitor.
Despite her pleas for release, Bohren denied Geyser’s previous request in April this year, citing concerns about the safety of the public. Geyser’s lawyer, Anthony Cotton, has not yet responded to requests for comments on the recent petition. The case continues to draw attention for its chilling portrayal of how fictional characters can impact vulnerable individuals, leading to devastating consequences.
