A body has been discovered in a tunnel under a main road in Tenerife, with reports indicating that the victim was found “tied up and burned”. Spanish authorities are currently investigating the incident, revealing that the body showed clear signs of violence and appeared to have been set on fire after being bound. The grim discovery was made in a tunnel located beneath the TF-1 highway at La Listado in the municipality of Arico.
Local news outlet El Dias reported that the body’s identity is yet to be confirmed. The discovery comes in close proximity to where a Belgian couple, Laura Trappeniers, 66, and Marc Olbrechts, 71, went missing on April 22. The couple had resided in Tenerife for 17 years before concerns arose from neighbors when their door was found open and their cat left unattended, suggesting their sudden disappearance.
Tragically, Laura Trappeniers’s body was later found by fishermen in the Atlantic, with her body mutilated and her head covered with a bag. Investigation reports revealed that she had been deceased for three days prior to being found. Regrettably, Marc Olbrechts remains missing with his whereabouts unknown at this time.
In connection to the case, two suspects, a father and son, were apprehended in Belgium, while a third suspect was detained in Spain. Despite knowing the couple as neighbors, the suspects deny any involvement in their disappearance and have pleaded not guilty as they await trial. Meanwhile, another ominous incident on the island involved Jay Slater, a teenager from Accrington, Lancashire, who went missing following a music festival.
Jay’s unfortunate fate was revealed through an autopsy, indicating that he died from “a fall or plunge from height”, resulting in multiple broken bones.
