A young woman who previously stabbed her schoolmate 19 times in an attempt to please the fictional horror character Slender Man has reappeared, this time seeking release from a mental health facility. Morgan Geyser, now 22 years old, filed a petition for release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute to Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren. This marked her third attempt in the last two years to seek freedom, as reported by the Mirror. Geyser’s first petition was withdrawn in 2022, and her second was dismissed by Bohren in April due to continued public safety concerns.
The latest petition requesting release contains no specific arguments but calls for an expert evaluation as required by state statutes. In 2014, Geyser, along with Anissa Weier, brutally attacked their classmate Payton Leutner at a park in Wisconsin. Geyser stabbed Leutner multiple times while Weier encouraged her to do so, all in an effort to become “proxies” for the fictional character Slender Man. Despite the vicious attack, Leutner miraculously survived the ordeal. Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted homicide and was placed in a psychiatric facility, while Weier was also held in a psychiatric center before being released in 2021 under certain conditions.
The entire incident was fuelled by Geyser and Weier’s infatuation with the internet character Slender Man, leading them to carry out the attack horrifically. Leutner, who was initially friends with Geyser, recalled how she met her when she was alone during lunchtime. Meanwhile, the request for Geyser’s release has reignited public interest in the case, considering the severity and nature of the crime committed by Geyser and Weier over a decade ago. The outcome of Geyser’s latest petition for freedom remains uncertain as legal proceedings continue to unfold.
