John Murdoch’s Drive Time is back with a focus on the latest versions of the Hyundai Inster and Subaru Forester SUV. The Hyundai Inster, Hyundai’s first small EV for the UK and European markets, is set to be attractively priced starting from just £23,495. This fully equipped mini-SUV-styled city car comes with a 42kWh battery and 96bhp, offering over 200 miles on a single charge. The Inster comes in two versions, with the entry-level Inster 01 packed with features such as alloy wheels, digital instrument cluster, touchscreen display with navigation, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, and more for £23,495. There’s also an optional 49kWh battery for an additional £1,050, boosting power to 113bhp and range to 220 miles. Moving up to the Inster 02, priced from £26,745, you get additional features like 17” alloy wheels, front parking sensors, LED lights, privacy glass, and more, all powered by the 49kWh battery.
Both Inster versions come equipped with an 11kW on-board charger, battery heating system, and high-efficiency heat pump, enhancing range and charging times. While UK sales dates are not confirmed, the Inster is currently being showcased at dealer roadshow events across 86 Hyundai retailers until December. In a separate development, Subaru has unveiled details of the new Forester SUV, scheduled for launch in the UK next Spring. With a history dating back to 1997 and over five million units sold globally, the new Forester boasts a revamped exterior design for a more refined look. The Subaru Forester will feature the e-Boxer mild-hybrid powertrain, comprising a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with a Lineartronic transmission. The SUV emphasizes driving dynamics and off-road capability, equipped with dual-function X-Mode for all-terrain use, including hill descent control and a towing capacity of 1,870 kg.
The sixth-generation Forester elevates Subaru’s EyeSight Assist Technology and Driver Monitoring System, now with enhanced emergency functionalities such as an emergency driving stop system. This system can halt the vehicle safely if the driver loses control in an emergency. With a ground clearance of 220mm, class-leading off-road specs, and advanced safety features, the new Forester aims to continue Subaru’s legacy in the SUV segment.
