Strictly Come Dancing pro Aljaz Skorjanec hit with ‘life changing’ health issue

Strictly Come Dancing professional Aljaz Skorjanec has recently shared details about his ongoing battle with psoriasis, a skin condition he has been dealing with for 16 years. The 34-year-old dancer, known for his appearances on the popular TV show, first encountered the skin condition at the age of 20. Psoriasis is a condition that leads to the formation of painful and itchy scales on the skin, as per NHS guidelines. Aljaz, who is currently partnered with Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri on Strictly Come Dancing, disclosed in a recent interview how the condition has significantly impacted his self-esteem, prompting him to conceal it during his time on the show.

Aljaz, who is married to fellow Strictly professional Janette Manrara, recounted his initial experience with psoriasis, stating, “When I was about 18, I stopped dancing competitively and it was a huge change in my life.” He further explained, “It was around that time I started getting odd patches on my knees, which then spread to my elbows.” Following a consultation with a dermatologist and subsequent treatment with steroid creams, his condition showed improvement. However, upon moving out, Aljaz noticed a worsening of his skin condition. He expressed his frustration at not comprehending why his skin was drastically changing and the challenges it posed to him, particularly in his line of work where appearances are crucial.

Despite seeking assistance from approximately 20 specialists over the years, undergoing various tests and trying numerous products, Aljaz found little relief. He even resorted to receiving injections directly into the affected areas out of desperation. The dancer shared his plight in managing the condition, expressing his disappointment each time a potential solution failed to provide lasting results. Aljaz admitted to concealing his condition both on Strictly Come Dancing and in his personal life, being particularly cautious about his choice of clothing to avoid drawing attention to the affected areas.

Psoriasis typically involves cycles of flare-ups followed by periods of remission. Individuals suspecting they may have psoriasis are advised to consult with a GP for proper evaluation and management. Aljaz’s candid revelation sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals battling chronic conditions while navigating public platforms like television shows.
