Hit horror film Ready Or Not from 2019 is getting an unexpected sequel, as reported by The Independent. The original film, which was a horror-comedy, starred Samara Weaving as a young bride who marries into a family with dark secrets. In the storyline, she must survive a deadly ritual in the family’s mansion, filled with wealthy satan worshippers.
The filmmaking collective Radio Silence, consisting of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett (who directed the first film), and Chad Villella, is set to produce the sequel. Samara Weaving is confirmed to reprise her role in the upcoming film. However, the supporting cast, including Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell, are not expected to return for the sequel.
The news of the sequel was unveiled during a special screening of the original film organised by distributor Searchlight. Speaking to ComicBook.com, Samara Weaving expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I’m all in. I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in… I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake, but pretty much. We’ve done the spit handshake, but we haven’t cut each other’s hands and rubbed our blood together.”
Ready Or Not received critical acclaim and was a hit at the box office, blending elements of horror, comedy, and social commentary. The film was praised for its unique take on class warfare, with Samara Weaving’s performance adding depth to the narrative.
The Independent’s own film critic, Clarisse Loughrey, awarded the film four stars and commented, “There’s little nuance in Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s horror-comedy take on class warfare, but it’s Weaving’s touch of pure anger that makes it feel like more than just your average shlocky gorefest. As absurd and self-indulgent as Ready or Not can get, it doesn’t mess around with its social commentary. The class system is the game we never asked to play, don’t get a fair chance at, and have no hope of winning. It’s a timeless metaphor.”
A release date for the sequel to Ready Or Not has not been announced yet, leaving fans eager for more details on the upcoming horror film.
