Thornhill Young Farmers Club in Dumfriesshire is preparing for a momentous occasion as they gear up to celebrate their 85th anniversary. The club has planned a series of exciting events to mark this milestone, beginning with a stockjudging competition set to take place on Friday, October 18 at Knockenjig Farm in Thornhill. This event will kick off at 7.30pm and is open to all interested parties, graciously hosted by the Walker Family.
Following the stockjudging competition, the club will host a dinner dance at The Cairndale Hotel in Dumfries on Saturday, November 2. Tickets for this event can be purchased from Samantha Haining by contacting 07740102965 before the deadline on October 18. These celebrations are part of a series of events that commenced with a bingo night held at Thornhill Community Centre, followed by a ploughing match at Dalgonar Estate in Dunscore on Sunday.
The ploughing match, a first for the club in over 20 years, saw the participation of 14 ploughmen of varying skill levels. The competition was judged by Robbie Rodan and Michael Clingan, with awards presented to participants in different categories. Callum Harvey was recognised as the Highest pointed club member and winner of the Drumcork Shield. In the Conventional class, Brian Harvey secured the first position, followed by Mark Craig. In the Reversible class, Alastair Webb emerged as the winner, with Gavin Grierson clinching the second spot.
