Breaking Bad star makes US election endorsement with powerful speech on abortion rights

Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston has thrown his support behind Kamala Harris for the upcoming US presidential election, delivering a powerful speech on abortion rights. Cranston, 68, made his endorsement during a Democratic campaign rally in Phoenix, Arizona, where he expressed his strong pro-choice beliefs as the reason for backing the Democrat candidate.

Speaking passionately at the event titled “Fighting for Reproductive Freedom,” Cranston, who is best known for his role as Walter White in the hit TV series Breaking Bad, emphasised the importance of women having the right to make decisions about their own bodies. He stated, “It’s important to me for her life now and for the future and for other fathers’ daughters to be able to have within their lifetime the fundamental right of freedom of choice.”

The actor, who is also a father of a daughter, reiterated the significance of individuals having autonomy over their own bodies, proclaiming, “There should not be anyone but them deciding what happens to their own body.” Cranston also expressed his enthusiastic support for Kamala Harris and Gov. Walz, drawing applause from the audience at the rally.

Cranston’s endorsement adds to the list of notable figures supporting Harris, including Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Stevie Wonder, and Bruce Springsteen. In contrast, Harris’s opponent in the election, Donald Trump, has garnered endorsements from the likes of Elon Musk, Amber Rose, Kid Rock, and Dennis Quaid.

The actor’s public declaration of support for Harris has resonated online, with fans expressing admiration and gratitude for his stance on such a crucial issue. Social media users praised Cranston, with one fan stating, “THIS is what I’ve been waiting to hear. So important. Thank you, Bryan!” Another fan playfully remarked, “In a world of Dennis Quaids, be a Bryan Cranston!”

Cranston had previously voiced his support for Harris during a town hall event in September and has consistently advocated for women’s reproductive rights. The looming presidential election has intensified conversations around abortion rights, particularly following a recent US Supreme Court decision that overturned key protections.

As the US election draws near, national polls indicate a tight race between Harris and Trump, with both candidates neck and neck in surveys of likely voters. The upcoming election on the horizon, with crucial issues such as reproductive rights at the forefront, underscores the significance of endorsements like Cranston’s in shaping public opinion and influencing voter choices.
