The Cleveland Cavaliers have officially broken ground on their new state-of-the-art training facility in downtown Cleveland, with a grand opening slated for 2027. The groundbreaking ceremony saw Cavaliers’ guard Donovan Mitchell, alongside other dignitaries, participate in the symbolic start of construction for the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center.
This futuristic facility will span 210,000 square feet and will form part of a significant redevelopment project on the banks of the Cuyahoga River, spearheaded by team owner Dan Gilbert. Mitchell, a five-time All-Star who recently inked a three-year contract extension with the Cavs, expressed the team’s commitment to its players through this investment.
In Mitchell’s words, “We wanted to emphasize how much an investment like this means to us… This is going to be huge for the longevity of our careers.” The Cavaliers also sealed a 25-year extension of their partnership with the Cleveland Clinic, underscoring their dedication to player welfare.
Not only will this cutting-edge center cater to the Cavaliers, but it will also be open to the public, offering athletes of all levels access to high-tech training equipment and comprehensive amenities. The Cavs have been training in Independence, Ohio, since 2007, and the move to downtown Cleveland will place them in close proximity to the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, their home arena.
