The Castle Douglas Flower Club hosted a captivating event centred around the theme “Talking About the Weather.” National judge and speaker, Cherrie Nummie from Northern Ireland, enthralled the audience with her stunning floral displays. The evening began with a warm welcome from Sheila Pook, who shared details of upcoming club events.
Cherrie’s first design, titled “Autumn in the Garden,” featured a rustic basket filled with an array of vibrant flora including crocosmia, eleagnus, and gladioli. The next creation depicted a cozy winter fireside scene, with burnt firelighter sticks surrounding a container filled with pittosporum, birch stems, roses, and germini flowers.
Continuing the theme, Cherrie presented an enchanting arrangement titled “Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining,” incorporating silver and white foliage, senecio, eryngiums, and anthuriums to evoke the essence of clouds. The audience was treated to a demonstration of crafting a wreath ring adorned with carnations, chrysanthemums, and roses.
The grand finale of the evening was a vibrant depiction of a rainbow, symbolised by a boat-shaped gold container overflowing with a spectrum of flowers and grasses. Cherrie’s skilful arrangement showcased dianthus, freesias, carnations, roses, and eryngiums in a colourful display representing nature’s beauty.
Amidst the creative showcase, the audience enjoyed a vote of thanks, participated in a raffle, and savoured refreshments. The upcoming club meeting promises a festive demonstration by John Dalton from Cumbria, titled “Christmas Greetings.”
