A man from Las Vegas who was apprehended with two firearms outside a Trump rally in California is challenging his portrayal as a potential assassin by the county sheriff. Vem Miller has accused Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco of fabricating a false narrative to boost his own image, according to a federal lawsuit filed on Tuesday.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Miller in Nevada federal court by attorney Sigal Chattah, alleges that Sheriff Bianco aimed to position himself as a hero who thwarted an assassination attempt on former President Trump. Miller, who identifies as a registered Republican and a supporter of Trump, is currently in hiding due to fears of retaliation from individuals who may believe the sheriff’s unsubstantiated claims.
Miller claims that despite law enforcement agencies such as the Secret Service and FBI determining that he posed no threat and declining to interview him, Sheriff Bianco continued to propagate misleading information to the media. This resulted in widespread damage to Miller’s reputation and character, the lawsuit asserts.
The complaint outlines alleged violations of Miller’s constitutional rights during his arrest by Bianco and several deputies, accusing them of conducting an unjustified search and seizure. It also disputes Bianco’s claims of Miller possessing fraudulent identification and being associated with extremist groups.
Following his arrest on October 12, Miller was held briefly on weapon-related charges before being released on bail. The lawsuit seeks compensation for damages, including emotional distress and defamation, and challenges the actions of law enforcement as unconstitutional and malicious.
Miller, a vocal Trump supporter and conspiracy theorist, insists that the weapons found in his possession were for personal protection. Amid conflicting reports and ongoing investigations, the legal battle between Miller and Sheriff Bianco intensifies as the former seeks to clear his name and seek justice for the harm caused by the sheriff’s allegations.
