An attempted robbery at a pizza shop in Austin, Texas took a surprising turn when the suspect got more than he bargained for from the employees. Richard Curtis, 19, has been charged with aggravated robbery following the incident that occurred at a Marco’s Pizza location around 7pm on Thursday.
According to reports from Fox 7 Austin, Curtis entered the shop and handed a note to an employee, instructing them not to make any noise and to empty the cash register. He then revealed a gun tucked in his waistband. However, the situation quickly escalated when the employee took action by putting Curtis in a chokehold, while another co-worker called the police.
During the scuffle, the restaurant manager managed to disarm Curtis and attempted to shoot him with the gun, which did not fire. Undeterred, the manager used the gun’s handle to strike Curtis. The manager then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and confronted Curtis, asking him if he preferred prison or death. Curtis reportedly chose prison and stopped resisting, awaiting his arrest.
One of the employees sustained a head injury during the altercation and received medical treatment. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with further details yet to be released by both the pizza shop and the Austin Police Department.
