Local children in Cleland came together to celebrate the grand opening of a new replacement play area, replacing the previous one in the public park. The children, who were actively involved in designing the new play area, were invited to mark the occasion. Officials including the Deputy Leader of the council, local councillors, the Convenor of Planning, and the Convener of Communities also attended the event, along with representatives of Cleland Community Council.
The project, developed by the Community Partnership Team in collaboration with pupils from local primary schools and Cleland Community Council, aimed to create a nature-themed play area. The new facility boasts junior and toddler climbing units, swings of various types, including a basket swing and coco wave pendulum swing, and interactive game panels for children’s enjoyment and learning. Additionally, new benches have been installed to provide seating for families and adults visiting the park.
Funding of £55,000 for the project was sourced from the Local Development Programme, managed by the council’s Community Partnership Team. Peter Lamb, a student from Cleland Primary School, won the ‘Design-a-Sign’ competition and had the honour of officially opening the new play area.
