Excitement is building for next year’s Dumfries Guid Nychburris Festival, following a successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) that unveiled plans for the upcoming event. The festival, set to take place from June 15 to June 21, kicked off its fundraising efforts with a ‘Festive Fizzy Fun’ event on November 23. Chairman John Caskie MBE expressed enthusiasm for the festival, with full ticket details and costs to be announced soon.
The AGM, held at the Municipal Chambers, saw a turnout of 21 members, supporters, and friends. Reports were presented by various office bearers, committee convenors, and representatives from Dumfries Cornets Club, Queen of the South Association, and Dumfries and Galloway Council. The 2024 Guid Nychburris Festival was commended for its diverse appeal, catering to all age groups.
Cornet Ross Boyd, Cornet’s Lass Caitlin McKenzie, and Queen of the South Lucy Galligan were praised for their outstanding contributions to the festival. Despite challenging weather conditions, over 230 horses participated in the marches, and a plethora of floats, bands, and walking entries joined the evening parade. The committee expressed gratitude to all involved and looks forward to welcoming attendees back for the 2025 festival.
Changes in committee roles were announced, with new appointments such as Amanda Brown as treasurer. The festival’s office bearers, convenors, and representatives for 2024/2025 were unveiled, including President Councillor Maureen Johnstone and Chairman John M Caskie MBE.
