A talented piper from Bannockburn High School, Arran Green, has claimed multiple top prizes at the Royal National Mod in Scotland. The 17-year-old musician shone at the Gaelic music celebration held in Oban, winning three prestigious awards. Arran Green was awarded the W.G.G. Wilson Trophy for the 16-18 Piobaireachd, the Royal Highland Fusiliers Cup for the 16-18 March, Strathspey and Reel, and the Col. Murdoch MacTaggart, Bowmore, Memorial Trophy for the 16-18 Hornpipe & Jig.
The Royal National Mod is a significant event that celebrates Gaelic culture, bringing enthusiasts together to honour the language, history, and heritage of the Gaels. The festival features a diverse programme of cultural activities, competitions, concerts, workshops, and more. At the Mod, piping competitions for both junior and senior participants took place at Oban High School, with Arran’s exceptional performance standing out in the 16-18 category.
James Graham, the chief executive officer of An Comunn Gàidhealach, the event organizers, praised the vibrant start to the Mod, highlighting performances by artists like Mànran and local talents that brought the birthplace of the Mod to life. The nine-day celebration will culminate on October 19, with Arran Green’s success in piping setting a high bar for the festival.
