In the distressing emergency call made to local police, the chief receptionist at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel informed authorities that Payne was heavily under the influence of drugs and alcohol and causing significant damage to his room before the fatal incident. The caller, identified as “Esteban,” urgently requested the presence of emergency services due to concerns about Payne’s safety.
The hotel manager expressed to the 911 operator, “We need you to send us someone urgently because, well, we don’t know if the guest’s life is at risk.” The operator assured that the public emergency medical services system in Buenos Aires was on its way to the hotel. The call took place at 5:01 pm local time, just moments before Payne’s tragic death.
Following the emergency call, local police were dispatched to the hotel in response to reports of an “aggressive man under the influence of drugs or alcohol.” Unfortunately, first responders were unable to save Payne as he sustained severe injuries.
A subsequent investigation into Payne’s hotel room revealed a scene of chaos, with various substances and items scattered around the room. Items such as clonazepam packs, energy supplements, and over-the-counter drugs were found in disarray. Additionally, police recovered a whiskey bottle, lighter, and cellphone from the internal hotel courtyard where Payne was discovered.
