Lanarkshire locals urged to take part in UK’s biggest food donation drive

Lanarkshire residents are being encouraged to participate in the UK’s largest food donation drive, the 12th annual Tesco Winter Food Collection. The event will take place in all Tesco stores across Lanarkshire from November 28 to 30. With food banks and charities experiencing high levels of demand this winter, locals are urged to volunteer their time to support this important cause.

Tesco’s charity partners, Trussell and FareShare, are seeking volunteers to assist in-store during the collection. Both charities play a crucial role in providing essential support to those in need. Donations of long-life food items will be accepted during the collection to help these organisations in their efforts to alleviate hunger in local communities.

Trussell aims to provide emergency food parcels to individuals who are struggling to afford necessities, while FareShare works with a network of 8,000 local charities and community groups to distribute food to those in need across the UK. Tesco is calling on volunteers to help raise awareness of the impact of every donation on people who rely on these charities for food assistance.

Trussell’s Chief Executive, Emma Revie, emphasised the importance of the community’s support in ensuring that food banks can continue to assist those facing hunger. Kris Gibbon Walsh, CEO at FareShare, expressed gratitude for Tesco’s ongoing support, highlighting the transformation of surplus and donated food into meals for communities in need.

Tesco’s Head of Community, Claire De Silva, recognised the generosity of customers during the Winter Food Collection and encouraged individuals to volunteer to make a difference. Those interested in volunteering can sign up at their local Tesco store with FareShare or Trussell.

As the need for food donations remains critical, this initiative provides an opportunity for Lanarkshire residents to contribute to their community’s well-being during the winter months. Joining forces with Tesco, Trussell, and FareShare can make a significant impact on combating hunger and supporting those facing food insecurity.

By actively participating in the Tesco Winter Food Collection, Lanarkshire locals can play a vital role in ensuring that individuals and families have access to essential food supplies during challenging times. Let’s come together to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
