Pokemon Voice Actor Addresses Rumours of Show Ending Due to Cast Tensions
Rica Matsumoto, the voice actor for Ash Ketchum in Pokemon, has spoken out regarding speculations that the popular anime series came to an end because of conflicts between its lead actors. Matsumoto lent her voice to Ash Ketchum, a determined young boy striving to become the best in monster battles, alongside Pikachu, voiced by Ikue Otani. Together, they embarked on numerous adventures spanning over 1,300 episodes since the show’s debut in 1997 until its conclusion last year.
Recent leaks suggested there were “strained relations” between Matsumoto and Otani, as disclosed in a leaked transcript following a significant data breach at Game Freak, one of the Pokémon franchise co-owners. Allegedly, the company contemplated replacing Matsumoto due to the perceived tension affecting team morale. Upon addressing these claims, Matsumoto refuted the rumours, denouncing them as fabricated. In a statement posted on X/Twitter, she clarified, “Don’t worry, nothing like this has happened. I’ve been friends with Iku-chan since she was a newbie, and she even came as a guest on Rika’s fan club tour.”
Expressing disdain for the spread of untrue information, Matsumoto added, “For those of you who don’t know me, I wonder if you enjoy writing something like this. No one is happy about it. I think it’s in poor taste and childish.” Fans rallied behind Matsumoto, showing their support and solidarity, emphasizing the enduring bond between the actors portraying Ash Ketchum and Pikachu.
While the post containing the alleged leaks has been deleted, speculations within the anime community persist. Despite Otani reprising her role as Pikachu in Pokemon Horizons, Matsumoto’s involvement remains uncertain. The ongoing discussion reflects the resilience of fan engagement and interest in the behind-the-scenes dynamics of beloved anime productions.
