Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly purchased a vacation home in Portugal. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided to add another property to their portfolio, alongside their current residence in California. This new purchase marks their first home in Europe since 2023. The couple has not yet made any official statements regarding this new acquisition, but multiple outlets have reported on the news.
One interesting aspect of buying property in Portugal is the opportunity to acquire a Golden Visa. This citizenship program allows individuals to gain legal rights in the country by making investments in the economy. To qualify for a Golden Visa, applicants usually need to meet certain minimum investment requirements in real estate, government bonds, or other approved assets. Benefits of the program include residency, education, healthcare, tax advantages, investment rewards, and the freedom to travel within the country.
It is worth noting that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not the only royal couple to own a home in Portugal. Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, also have a residence in the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club, situated south of Lisbon. Last September, Harry and Meghan spent time with Eugenie and Jack, who are parents to young children as well. The Sussexes have five-year-old Archie and three-year-old Lilibet, while Eugenie and Jack have three-year-old August, one-year-old Ernest, and are expecting another child in spring 2025.
Previously, Harry and Meghan had access to Frogmore Cottage, a property gifted to them as a wedding present in 2018. However, they were asked to vacate the premises following the release of Harry’s controversial memoir, Spare. Apart from their recent real estate purchase, Meghan has been actively involved in supporting organizations that empower young girls. She recently visited Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara, a girls’ leadership organization focused on helping girls reach their full potential.
During her visit, Meghan discussed her personal experiences with online bullying and participated in activities with the girls to raise awareness about these issues. Meanwhile, Prince Harry was spotted enjoying some surfing at a ranch in California. Professional surfer Raimana Van Bastolaer shared footage of Harry catching waves at Kelly Slater’s facility in Leemore and referred to him as “my brother” during the session.
