Stirling Council has recently greenlit the disposal of surplus land and assets in the Viewforth area to pave the way for a new development project that will see the construction of approximately 150 homes, along with associated infrastructure and green spaces. The eight-hectare site includes various properties such as the land surrounding the council’s Old Viewforth headquarters, excluding the Old Viewforth building but encompassing Langgarth House, as well as Burghmuir Road, Linden Avenue car park, and the former Wellgreen Care Home. Following this decision, the marketing of the land and assets will begin, with a detailed report expected to be presented at a future council meeting to discuss the outcome of this process and recommend preferred bidders.
The development plans for the site will be influenced by the recently approved framework and planning brief for Viewforth and Burghmuir, which received input from consultations with the local community. This framework outlines the vision for the area, emphasizing the utilization of existing structures and infrastructure, the creation of new housing units, the enhancement of greenspaces and biodiversity, and the improvement of connectivity within Stirling. Langgarth House, which sustained fire damage earlier this year, is also included in the site’s marketing plans. The final decision regarding the property’s status at the time of sale will be made following consultations with conservation and insurance experts. Additionally, the Old Viewforth building will be retained for corporate and civic purposes as part of the council’s accommodation strategy.
