A charity in Cambuslang has recently received a generous donation of £1000 from a housebuilder involved in a nearby development project. The Friends of Cambuslang Park, which advocates for the 27-acre green area and offers a variety of activities for the local community, was granted the funding boost by Persimmon West Scotland, the builders working at Castle Gardens. Throughout 2023, over 3,000 individuals participated in events organised by Friends of Cambuslang Park, including weekly outdoor play sessions for children, adult-friendly football, and the highly anticipated Family Fun Day.
These activities not only encouraged community engagement but also promoted physical activity, well-being, and social interactions, particularly within neighbourhoods facing socio-economic challenges. The donation from Persimmon West Scotland will go towards supporting the charity’s Connected Community programme, which hosts year-round events such as Forest School Sessions, Silent Disco Guided Walks, and annual Cleanup and Bulb Planting days. Local elected members, Clare Haughey MSP and Cllr Norman Rae, along with Persimmon West Scotland Managing Director Chris Logan, presented the cheque to the charity.
The funding is part of Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative, which aims to assist local charities and good causes in the areas where the company operates. Over the past five years, this programme has distributed more than £360,000 across Scotland to help bolster communities. Fiona Murray, a member of Friends of Cambuslang Park, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting the potential to expand their Connected Community programme, enabling more individuals to come together to enjoy and care for Cambuslang Park.
