In a heartwarming gesture, Anthony Joshua has reportedly paid for the funeral of the brother of former boxer Kevin Mitchell. Mitchell, who achieved the title of British super featherweight champion in 2008 and contended in two world title fights in 2015, shared this touching act of kindness during an episode of the That Josh James Show podcast.
The late Vinny, brother of Mitchell and a former professional boxer himself, tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident in 2019 at the age of 31. Mitchell revealed that Joshua, knowing the family well, reached out during a difficult time and offered to cover the funeral expenses. Mitchell recalled the moment, saying Joshua called him while they were at the chapel of rest in Dagenham East, expressing his support and care for the family.
Amidst the grief and financial worries surrounding the funeral arrangements, Joshua’s generosity provided immense relief to Mitchell and his family. Mitchell recounted how Joshua spoke to his mother, Alice, and offered to bear the expenses of the funeral, alleviating the financial burden during a tumultuous period.
Joshua, following a challenging defeat by Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium, is now focused on a potential rematch as he aims to regain his standing in the boxing world. Dubois secured a victory over Joshua, retaining the IBF heavyweight title after dropping him four times en route to a fifth-round win in September. Although a rematch clause has been revealed, Dubois and his team are exploring other options before confirming the next opponent.
Frank Warren, Dubois’ promoter, disclosed plans for Dubois to defend his title early next year and mentioned ongoing discussions to finalise the opponent. While a rematch with Joshua remains a strong possibility, other contenders are also being considered for the upcoming fight. Warren expressed willingness to see Dubois face Joshua again, emphasizing the potential for a thrilling rematch between the two heavyweight boxers.
