Boohoo boss to step down as it launches strategic review

Boohoo’s CEO announces resignation amidst strategic review and sales slump

The CEO of Boohoo, a leading online fashion retailer, has revealed plans to step down as the company initiates a strategic review to boost its performance. This development coincides with another decline in sales figures and a recent refinancing deal.

John Lyttle, the current Chief Executive Officer of Boohoo, stated that he will be stepping down from his position after serving the company for five years. He informed the board of directors about his decision while also sharing news of the latest drop in sales revenue.

Under Mr. Lyttle’s leadership, Boohoo faced challenges such as weakening sales due to customer budget constraints caused by the increasing cost of living and disruptions in the supply chain. Additionally, the company expanded significantly with acquisitions like Debenhams and Karen Millen.

Boohoo announced a strategic review aimed at exploring options to enhance shareholder value, sparking speculations about a potential restructuring of the business. The company reported a 15% decline in revenues to £620 million for the six months ending on August 31.

The gross merchandise value (GMV) sales also saw a 7% reduction to £1.18 billion, with a total of £802 million after factoring in customer returns. While UK sales only dropped by 2%, sales in the US plummeted by 18% and the rest of the world division experienced a 21% decline.

Amidst the challenging sales figures, Boohoo remains optimistic about the future, anticipating an improvement in GMV sales and adjusted earnings in the second half of the year. A new debt financing agreement worth £222 million has been secured by Boohoo to support its future growth plans.

This strategic move and change in leadership at Boohoo highlight the company’s commitment to addressing current challenges and driving towards sustainable growth in the online retail sector.
