The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has launched a last-minute campaign to capitalise on one of its most high-profile backers, Taylor Swift. The campaign, announced on Friday, just over two weeks before election day, aims to energise younger voters and fans of the pop megastar and guide them into the “Kamala Era.”
Swift officially endorsed Kamala Harris in the race on September 10, immediately after the presidential debate with Donald Trump. She stated that she was supporting Harris because she fights for the rights and causes she believes in. The singer, known for hits like ‘Shake It Off’ and ‘All Too Well,’ urged people to conduct their research and register to vote.
The DNC’s Swift-themed “I Will Vote” campaign includes an exclusive new Snapchat filter encouraging young voters to be “fearless” on key election issues such as abortion and the economy. The filter will feature “In My Voting Era” at the top and will be available in key battleground states.
The ads will kick off in Miami with a mobile billboard on a boat near Swift’s concert venue and other billboards around the city. Rosemary Boeglin, DNC Communications Director, highlighted the importance of reaching out to young voters through various platforms like concert venues and social media to ensure they have the necessary resources to cast their vote.
Swift’s endorsement and involvement in the campaign are seen as crucial to engaging young voters. The DNC has previously offered friendship bracelets featuring words like “voter” and “Democrat,” inspired by those worn by fans during Swift’s The Eras Tour.
In an Instagram post, Swift encouraged voters to do their research, make informed choices, and ensure they are registered to vote. She signed off the post as a “Childless Cat Lady,” referencing controversial comments made by Trump running mate JD Vance about Democratic leaders.
The DNC’s strategic use of Swift’s endorsement and influence serves as a key element in their efforts to mobilise young voters and highlight the stakes of the upcoming election. By leveraging Swift’s popularity and message, the DNC aims to secure support for Harris and other Democratic candidates in November.
