Elon Musk and Marjorie Taylor Greene have sparked controversy by reigniting election conspiracy theories that could potentially provoke the wrath of Dominion Voting Systems.
More than a year after Fox News settled with Dominion over similar claims, Elon Musk brought back a debunked conspiracy theory questioning the legitimacy of the 2020 election results. During a Pennsylvania town hall event to support Donald Trump’s campaign, Musk made false statements insinuating that Dominion had a hand in manipulating the election against Trump. He mentioned concerns about Dominion voting machines being used in specific locations, casting doubt on their integrity. Greene, a Republican congresswoman from Georgia, also claimed that a Dominion machine altered a voter’s ballot in her district, further fuelling the conspiracy theories.
In response to these claims, Dominion has refuted the allegations, asserting that its voting systems are based on voter-verified paper ballots and have been validated through hand counts and audits. The company has previously taken legal action against individuals and media outlets spreading false information about its operations.
It is worth noting that election officials, courts, and even Trump’s own administration have not found any substantial evidence of widespread election fraud. Musk and Greene’s unsubstantiated claims regarding Dominion’s involvement in election irregularities in states like Arizona and Pennsylvania, which Trump lost in 2020, are not supported by factual evidence.
